FAQ: Questions and Answers regarding RAL C1 DIGITAL 4.0
Every now and then we receive questions about the purchase of the software or the work with the digital RAL colours:

Q: Do I have to pay in advance? Do you create an invoice?
A: Within Germany we deliver on account, after good old
salesmen traditions. Outside of Germany we recommend payment via credit card
(without additional charges) or advance payment (additional bank charges).
In well-founded individual cases we will also deliver overseas on commission
F: I’m in a particular hurry. Could you send us the software by E-Mail or can I download the program in the internet?
A: Yes you can download RAL C1 (DIGITAL 4.0) from our download page. This
version can be converted to the full version. By ordering the software you
will receive further parts of the package by mail.
Q: We have a customer who is interested in your product. What conditions apply to retailers?
A: As a retailer you will receive an attractive dealer
rebate (at least 15%) that is staggered. Individual orders are possible.
We offer larger handlers a software for the calculation of lisence codes.
Where are the palettes for the printer optimization?
F: Up to version 3.0 palettes for a better print quality on supported output devices were included but now not even one of them is available. Do you plan to manufacture those output variants and if so, when?
A: In the area of print-colour
output-quality a lot has changed for the better in the last few years. As
a rule you will achieve a good colour match with the sRGB-variant, not only
with the monitor, but also with the printer. In the mean time sRGB (Standard-RGB),
which was introduced by HP and Microsoft, has established itself as the generally
accepted RGB-standard for monitors and printers. In the case that the sRGB-variant
does not produce satisfactory results, you can have your output situation
calibrated by us and have colour palettes prepared. Hereby you will reach
a perfect match of the RAL-colours in your print process. The colour matching
is highly precise as it is not based on ICC-profiles, but rather on an extensive
hand matching of the RAL-colours. You can find further information here.
Q: We use a visualization tool that is not widely distributed. Are RAL-colours a possibility?
A: It is very possible. If the program supports materials
in tga-, jpg or bmp-format you can work directly with the RAL C1 (DIGITAL
3.0) CD-ROM. The solution for ARCON consists e.g. out of bmp-Bitmaps and
for AutoCAD out of tga’s. It is therefore conceivable that the colour
palettes can be produced. The program would have to be examined to this end.
Naturally there are many programs that don’t support external palettes
or bitmap-materials.
AutoCAD: RAL colours in 2D mode
Q: We use AutoCAD for plans, especially in 2D mode. The RAL libraries only function with rendering. Can't I apply the colours in the 2D mode?
A: This topic has been with us for several years now.
Up until AutoCAD-version 2003 it was, in point of fact, true that the AutoCad-owned
colour palettes could not be changed. An integration of the RAL-colours was,
up until then, only possible by the use of an expensive add-on program from
Finnland. As of the Version 2004 Autodesk decided to integrate the RAL-colours
into the program per licence, so that now all RAL colour functions are available.

Q: Since I rebuilt my computer the software only runs in the demo mode.
A: You have made extensive alterations to your system
(e.g. exchanged the hard drive.)
You will now need a new liscence code, which is of course available to you
free of charge.
Single workstation license on several computers
Q: We have several computers on the network running the Nemetschek program. Do I need a multiple license or is a single license enough?
A: You need a multiple license. The first work station
will be calculated as the "original liscence", after that each
additional as a low-priced "expansion liscence" (approx. 25% of the
original liscence).
Additional user license also for my notebook?
F: I am using a notebook for my field work. Do I have to buy on additional user license for it?
A: No. Notebooks are considered as an extension of your work station. For this you will receive the full version conversion free of charge.
Q: Who is the dtp studio? How did you come to work together with RAL?
A: The dtp studio resides in Oldenburg, in northwest
Germany (see http://www.dtpstudio.de). The idea for the software project
was engendered during the work on a book the topic of which was printer drafts
production and marketing ("handbook marketing with the pc"). We
noticed that in the current programmes mainly american colour systems were
represented, above all else Pantone, and that the standard colour systems
used in Germany HKS and RAL were almost no where to be found. The products
HKS DTP-package and RAL C1 (DIGITAL 3.0) originated out of the idea to fix
this unevenness. The basis of the cooperation with RAL is a liscence agreement.
Q: Compared to my graphic software, your software is very expensive…
A: RAL C1 (DIGITAL 3.0) is a relatively
strongly specialized productist, that is (sadly) not liscenced in large
quantities. A lot of handwork is involved in the colour matching of the
device variations and the preparation of the software palettes. And despite
extensive enhancement of the range of activities the price was not raised.
Q: Compared to my CAD software, your software is priced favorably. Your package includes numerous useful tools.

Simplified full version activation in the network
Q: We run a network of 40 computers. To activate each individual computer to the full version would be cumbersome. Do you have a simplified full version activation procedure?
A: Yes – we offer larger clients a full version
activation service, or a version that does not need to be activated
Q: Do you offer reduced prices for students?
A: No. Academic version (for educational establishments)
will be delivered at dealers tearms and conditions.
