Calculated Harmony

Apart from the fact that harmony depends strongly on subjective feeling, there are nevertheless certain rules which are generally recognized. This program determines based on these rules the following colour harmonies and variations.

• Complimentary contrast: an appealing colour is balanced out with a complimentary colour
• Brightness-Variation: the starting colour is varied in brightness
• Saturation-Variation: the starting colour is varied in intensity
• Colour development: the shades between two starting points are sought

Each harmony can be calculated in general (CIELAB, RGB) or in one of the three RAL colour systems.

 

The harmonies are not calculated inside the HSV/HSL colour model and thus in RGB as is customary but inside the CIELAB colour space. Adepts of the material know that the CIELAB model conforms by far better with our eyes than RGB. Due to that it is not exaggerated when saying that the colour harmonies which are calculated using RAL C1 DIGITAL are more harmonic than the calculated colour harmonies of other software products. (Disregarding the fact that you cannot calculate RAL colour harmonies in any other software.)
