Colour values
In this program the colour values of all RAL colours
(RAL DESIGN System, RAL CLASSIC colours and RAL EFFECT colours) are displayed
in various models. This way the values can be used in all colour capable
programs with the RAL colours, whether RGB, CMYK or Lab input is used.
The final quality, i.e. the agreement with the original colours, is also shown.
The most important colour values at a glance.
Which RGB-/CMYK-/LAB-/HLC- colour value has a certain RAL colour?
The question about the colour values of a RAL colour often arises in practice. Thus for example, if one operates in a program, that does not support the RAL colour palettes, or if one wants to use a colour in another than the installed output situation.
In this program the colour values are displayed in RGB
or CMYK for selected output versions.
Brief Instruction
Lab and HLC values
The colour values of the CIELAB-model are device-independent and represent the base values of the software, in which the colour is defined (the appearance of a RGB- colour value depends on the output device).
A good output quality can be achieved within programs with colour management functionality by direct input of the Lab values (if also a high-quality profile file for the concerned output device is present). Programs in which a free input of Lab-colour values is possible, are for example Adobe Photoshop, PageMaker or the Corel Graphics Suite.
HLC -Colour values are a simple conversion of the cartesian coordinates L, a and b into polar coordinates Hue, Lightness and Chroma. The HLC colour values are intuitively conceivable and directly convertible into the RAL Design System, which features colour names in the HLC structure.
"The method to arrange colours according to these criteria is the most
logical and intuitive. The RAL DESIGN System is the colouration of the
HLC coordinate system and makes it available for rational colour design ",
writes the RAL institute.
RGB (Trinitron)
The Trinitron values are not based on a mathematical conversion of the Lab values into RGB, but on a more complex lithografic measuring and a following correction and smoothing action. The achieved quality of the classical RAL-colours on calibrated Trinitron systems is indicated (***= good approximation, *= suboptimal approximation).
With other adjustments, monitors and output situations the quality is to be checked.
CMYK (artprint)
The CMYK-colour values were taken by hand in the case
of the classical RAL colours and determined calculationally in the case of
the RAL Design System. For the classical RAL colours the achieved quality
is indicated.
